Jeanne is a publication series initiated by Susanne Hinrichs and Peter Klein, which will be developed over the coming years with artists from the collection. Some 15 funded titles are being considered, available individually or in a slipcase.

The title Jeanne is derived from the address of the collection, Avenue Jeanne in Brussels. Here, artists are also offered the opportunity to work, or to not work. The publications are intended to provide an additional space and make the work more accessible.

Although height and volume may vary, all books will be produced as hard cover with the same depth, same paper (albeit varying grammages) and same typography. The illustrated material can be anything—drawing in the widest sense—whether a few illustrations or many, also notes, sketches, existing or new texts, works created especially for the book, or a work created specifically as a book, to be then reproduced for a larger print run.

Jeanne is a rather intuitive, collection- and book-specific initiative in which the publications ultimately enter into a dialog with one another. “Collection-specific” also means an openness to new works and impulses from the artists. We intend to overcome conventions of picture-by-picture art books, with respect to an experience of paper and a constantly recomposed, active space.

Compared to more conventional catalogues, Jeanne may work without text. As an accompanying place for possible existing or new texts, we are planning an special section on an equally bibliophile website. Here, books can also be ordered.

All publications are conceived in collaboration with Benedikt Reichenbach and are edited and designed by him in consultation with Susanne and Peter. Whether Benedikt does almost everything or almost nothing will vary from case to case. Practically anything is possible.

The series is currently being developed in terms of design and production based on books with Bettina Blohm, Sebastian Rug, Hanns Schimansky and German Stegmaier.
